How to Get Your Spray Tan to Last Longer

NYC tanning salons are definitely the better alterrnative to risking skin damage and melanomas just to get a glowing, bronzed look. Because NYC Spray Tanning is completely UV-light free, it won’t increase your risk of developing skin cancer or cause damage like freckles and wrinkles. On the average, a spray tan will last about a week. You can make it last a few days longer, however, if you follow these tips:

  • Make sure that you have prepped your skin before getting a spray tan. First, you need to exfoliate your whole body especially in the dry areas like the knees and elbows. This will minimize skin shedding later on.
  • Shave before your spray tanning session, not later.
  • Do not apply any oils, creams or lotions on the day of your spray tan. These substances will prevent the tanning agent from being absorbed evenly, causing streaks.
  • After getting sprayed, try not to shower for at least six hours. If you can make it to 24 hours before showering, this would be ideal as it will give the color enough time to intensify.
  • After 24 hours, you can shower but avoid taking prolonged hot showers which could wash off your tan sooner. Pat your skin dry and don’t rub it with the towel.
  • Apply a good moisturizer each time you shower, to keep your skin soft and supple. Because the spray tan only stained the topmost layers of your skin, shedding or flaking skin will result in a fading tan.
  • Avoid weraing clothing that rubs or chafes against your skin. Again, friction will enhnace skin shedding, resulting in fading.

The effectiveness of these tips in making your tan last longer really depnds on your individual skin type. Some people just have skin that retains tans longer, while some may fade much sooner.
