ABOUT THE EBAY FOUNDATION COMMUNITY GIVES CAMPAIGN
The Community Gives Campaign
Create good in the world by inspiring people to contribute together to worthy causes – that’s the idea behind the Community Gives campaign. By giving together to fund projects at three nonprofit organizations, we’ll have a greater positive impact than if we contributed individually. eBay Foundation is kicking off the Community Gives campaign with a seed grant of $1 million. When you contribute alongside the Foundation, the Foundation will provide even more funds, based on how many people donate. Ultimately, through the Community Gives campaign, we’ll harness "the power of all of us” to do great things for three deserving nonprofits.
The Community Gives Causes
eBay Foundation wanted to choose causes that are important to the eBay Community. So we talked with a sample of active eBay Community members and looked at eBay Giving Works to learn which causes were already being earmarked for donations. Once we narrowed down the list, we looked for organizations that have positive impact in several local communities around the country or around the world. We reviewed their history and accomplishments, their fiscal responsibility and strength, their impact on the causes they address, and their rankings on public charity standards. First Book, Best Friends Animal Society, and Oxfam America easily meet and exceed all of these criteria. While these organizations differ widely in their missions and activities, they share a strong, enduring commitment to making the world a better place.
The Community Gives Projects
eBay Foundation worked closely with each nonprofit organization to understand the areas of greatest need and to identify high-impact, concrete projects that support each nonprofit’s mission and will make a lasting difference. Every dollar you contribute will support the project at the organization you select when you donate. eBay Foundation will monitor the progress of each project to ensure that it’s being completed as planned. The projects are described in more detail on each of the nonprofit pages.
Fee Waivers for Donations
eBay and PayPal are waiving all donation-related fees. 100% of your donation through the Community Gives website will go directly to the nonprofit organization and project you select.
A Dollar per Donor: The eBay Foundation Matching Grant
In addition to providing a seed grant of $1 million, eBay Foundation will contribute $1 for each person who donates through the Community Gives campaign, up to $100,000. All eBay Foundation funds will be divided equally among the three nonprofit organizations.

In 1998, with a donation of pre-IPO stock, eBay created a charitable fund known as eBay Foundation. Today, eBay Foundation remains an important part of eBay and serves as the main vehicle through which eBay Inc. contributes to nonprofit organizations. Annually, eBay Foundation provides grants to numerous nonprofit groups that are working to make local communities better places to live and work. To date, the Foundation has contributed over $16 million to nonprofit organizations throughout the world.
